Our
Story

How Secure are Bifolding Doors?

Much like our windows, our bi-folding doors are secure by design making them considerably more secure, provided that they’re installed with the correct locks, locking mechanisms, glazing, and any additional home security systems you choose to invest in.

Bi-folding doors need to be correctly manufactured and installed to help deter any intruders from damaging them, and any top-quality bi-fold door should be made from a minimum of double-glazing and toughened glass. Not only is tough glass incredibly difficult to break or dislodge, but it comes with the added benefit of preventing accidents and retaining indoor heat – helping to reduce your energy bills.

A secure bi-fold door operates using a multi-point locking mechanism, working by locking a number of bolts across the upper and lower frame of the door. Locks that are available for bi-fold doors include:

Twin Point Locks – One of the most common locks and is a style build around a handle in the center of the door that can be turned to activate a locking system.

Drop Bolts – Fixed to the interior top and bottom of your doors and can be activated manually, adding an extra layer of protection to a standard locking mechanism. These are only effective when used alongside the standard door lock.

Deadbolts – A standard locking system for bi-folding doors, they work the same way as deadbolts on your front door.
